Musings on music

This wasn't originally intended to be an actual post but went on too long for the comments section.

It's funny that Robb mentions headphones and stereotypical listening habits as I often wonder the same thing. Now granted, I haven't been on a bus in about 20 years. Being that I have a car...and am not a hippie, I have little opportunity to use public transportation. However, I do spend a few hours at the gym every week. (Side note for Robb:that's the place where people go to get some exercise. Not to be confused with a gay bath house).

The gym is also an interesting place to play the headphone guessing game. All walks of life wander around there, a good percentage of them in their own blissful music oblivion. Some do seem rather obvious, but others are downright perplexing. Let's take Robb for example. You've all seen the Robb pics of the day. Let's picture him on a southbound Clark street bus wearing his Kangol and other Robb hippiewear. I can see him sitting there unknowingly mouthing the words to something. Rap , emo, Bjork...who can tell? Maybe books on tape...

As for me, I am indeed a huge Rick Springfield fan. His new album is etitled Venus in Overdrive and will be out on July 29th. Amazon has it available for preorder if you're interested. I heard a few songs at his show a couple months ago. He still sounds great. I'd like to thank Robb for giving me this opportunity to plug the new CD.

This being said, I haven't rocked any Rick on my mp3 in quite some time. Could be that at the gym I look for a slightly different sound. Lately it has been the recent Alkaline Trio release Irony and Agony, The Lawrence Arms and The Spill Canvas. All of which you can check out at lastfm.com.

If you're not familiar with lastfm it's a free website where you can stream full songs to your pc from all musical artists. It offers suggestions for other artists based on what you choose to listen to.

So here's what I'd like to do. If you can be bothered to, post the last three things that you listened to in the comments section. Or email your photo via the handy link at the top p the page and we'll let Robb take a guess.

One other note....yes I would imagine that this blog comes off a tad boring at times. I will say this though, it has and continues to provide me with minutes of mindless entertainment every week. And after all what is life other than an endless search to amuse ourselves.

The last three songs I listened to were: Don't talk to strangers - Rick Springfield
I just died in your arms tonight - Cutting Crew(My 6 year old loves, loves, loves, these songs as do I)
All Summer Long - Kid Rock

I don't think I look like a hippie, while listening to these I was dressed for work so I must have looked like a corporate yuppie. (Yuck)

Last three songs... It was of one album, so does that count?

Anyway, Modest Mouse, from Good News for People Who Love Bad News:

Devil's Workday
The View
Satin in a Coffin

Hmm.. as for the other two comments, Candicet72, you do not strike me as the least bit hippie. More... I don't know, like Livius?

Well, anyway.

Mychild. Listening to Q101 are we?

As for me, feel free to condemn my musical taste, because I've been told by many musical buffs that my taste is crappy. And for the record, I only listen to Bjork when i'm in the proper emotional state.

It's great to start the music conversation, because people get really touchy about it, it's easy to start fights over musical taste.

Aight, Liv and Robb, only because I'm in a pretty damn good mood right now and I am not one to entirely believe in the "Looks mandate musical listening behavour", below are my last 3 songs I listened to on my i-pod... Partially debunking your theory. By the by, for those who haven't met me... I'm sure that most people assume, upon initial examination, that I'm the whitest/most normal guy you'll ever meet:

The Roots - Game Theory
Joy Division - Dead Souls
Chingon - Malaguena Saleroa

A post-script to this comment though... Whiny Emo Fucktards and Whiteboy Gangsta Wannabes are listening to exactly what you think.

Post-post-script: Where is the lump of rage known as hippiehater? No comments from him as of recent. Is he too busy kicking paraplegic midgets or what?

Post-post-post-script: Congrats on becoming gainfully employed Liv. Welcome back to the fold... and my sincerest condolences.

Hey I only kick quadriplegic midgets. They are unable to but their hands up in a futile defense. The blood helps shine my shoes.

I haven't listend to my mp3 player in quite sometime. However, I will endulge you in what the three most recent songs on my computer have been. I may lie and add or delete a song for the sake of saving face and I will let you know Genesis, if that's your real name there's nothing wrong with being a whiteboy gangsta wannabe.

Snow Patrol - Headlights on Dark Roads
Doobie Brothers - it keeps you runnin
Bob Sinclair ft. Steve Edwards - World Hold on children of the sky

I also must casually admit that "Ludo- Love me dead" has probably been played in upwards of 20x in the last 36 hours.

Robb-What is the right emotional state for Bjork? Razor on the wrist suicidal or Masturbating to your favorite poetry?

Candicet- did your work attire include a jean jacket that had been "bedazzled"

Mychild - I got nothing

hippiehater- You know quadrapelegic midgets? I'll get the video camera

Hey Dan, that's right, corporate america has switched from suits to jean jackets that have been bedazzeled. Oh happy day!

Dan... In this case, certainly leaning toward "Masturbating to your own poetry", I think suicide is lame.

Chris... I wouldn't be so shocked if I wasn't volunteering with you at the "Puppies for Quadriplegic Midgets" Charity event last week. You are a hypocrite. A dirty hypocrite.

Really what are all these weird names? Mychild? Smithereens? I just don't get it. I bet you all wear skinny jeans too, and wear your hair like Pete Wentz.

Just to give credit where credit is do...I listened to Rick Springfield on my mp3 player yesterday and today. New CD is out kids. Best Buy has two exclusive tracks and an attractive $9.99 price tag for you bargain shoppers.

I have some thoughts on who our two mystery commenters are, but I think I will preserve their anonymity.

Robb : Instead of masturbating to your own poetry why don't you write a poem about masturbation? Oh yeah...I forgot. Never mind.

Chris : I hate to out you like this in a public forum but I haven't yet forgotten the homeless midget you had sex with. She described you as tender...
